Saturday Tours of the City (and Beyond)
What's that you say? You say that you're so excited to be coming here to lovely San Francisco, but you're so overwhelmed by the unending variety of activities available to you in our fair to partly-cloudy-with-a-light-fog city that you don't even know where to begin?
Never fear! We've lined up some of our most clever and knowledgeable friends to guide you through the streets (and, in some cases, hills) of San Francisco and surrounding environs.
Tours will take place on Saturday afternoon, leaving from Dolores Park at 1:30 once the picnic has ended. And we promise that all the tours will end well in advance of dinner time, so you'll have an opportunity to try out some of the nearby downtown restaurants before meeting up with us for the pre-ceremony cocktail reception.
If you are interested in going on one of the tours, please let us know by contacting us at wedding@monstro.com, so that we can get an accurate headcount to give to the guides.
- Walking the City with Peter Merholz: When we first moved to San Francisco, and found ourselves a little overwhelmed by everything they've packed in here, we turned to our pal Peter Merholz (sometimes known as just "Peterme") to help us make a little better sense of the city. Peter's one of those guys who, for whatever reason, has packed his head full of knowledge about the places in San Francisco and the stories behind them, and he has graciously agreed to share what he knows with you as you walk through the city with him.
Starting right next to the park at the Mission Dolores (for which the park, as you may have guessed, is named), Peter will take you on a trip of the city's highlights, riding back on the J to downtown and checking out local favorites like Chinatown, North Beach, the Cable Cars, and anything else he can think to pack into this three-hour tour. Peter's a lot of fun, and you'll be glad you went, but wear comfortable shoes, because this is a walking city, and there will be a lot of walking.
- Biking through the Hills of Marin with Jeff Veen: Jeff is something of a renaissance guy: talented author, Lane's business partner (as is Peter, actually), amateur cycling enthusiast, and surprisingly tall to boot, Jeff has oh-so-graciously agreed to take the more athletically inclined of you on a biking tour of the hills north of San Francisco in lovely Marin County.
The trip will start from Fisherman's Wharf where you'll rent bikes, then heading over the Golden Gate Bridge and through some of Jeff's favorite places to ride. If you're into biking, this is the tour to go on — but you really need to let us know that this is what you want to do so that we can give the bike rental shop an accurate headcount.
Remember, if any of these sound interesting to you, let us know by emailing us at wedding@monstro.com. You can also email Jeff (jeff@veen.com) or Peter (peterme@peterme.com) directly if you have any questions about the specifics of the tours. They're friendly folks, and they won't mind answering your questions.
